Working as a physiotherapist for Olympic gymnastics and track and field teams is undoubtedly a unique and extremely rewarding experience. Over the years, I have had the privilege of being part of a team dedicated to excellence, working closely with top athletes and professionals from various fields to ensure their peak performance in competitions.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: The Key to Success
One of the aspects that significantly contributed to our success was the interdisciplinary collaboration. In particular, I had the honor of working alongside sports physician Mihaela Dobronici, orthopedist Dr. Alin Pandea and physiotherapist Foti Tona. As a specialist in sports medicine, Mihaela brought a valuable perspective and medical expertise, perfectly complementing my work as a physiotherapist. Dr. Alin Pandea efficiently managed acute and chronic cases, intervening promptly to prevent joint and tissue degeneration through various techniques, including infiltrations.
Advanced physiotherapy methods
Within our team, we have implemented advanced physiotherapy methods to ensure effective and fast treatments. These methods include:
- EPI (Percutaneous Intratissue Electrolysis): This innovative technique uses electrical current to stimulate the regeneration of affected tissues, accelerating the healing process.
- Neuromodulation: A technique aimed at regulating nerve activity to reduce pain and improve muscle function.
- Ultrasound-guided Dry Needling: This method allows for increased precision in treating myofascial trigger points, using ultrasound imaging to guide needle placement.
Complex case management
Working with elite athletes inevitably involves managing complex cases. From severe injuries to chronic overuse issues, each situation was approached with care and professionalism. Our team was always ready to intervene quickly and efficiently, using the latest recovery techniques and technologies.
A relevant example is the close collaboration with Dr. Alin Pandea, who administered infiltrations to treat inflammation and prevent joint degeneration in athletes who were experiencing chronic pain. Through a concerted effort, we developed intensive treatment plans that included the advanced therapies mentioned above, along with manual therapy and strengthening and mobilization exercises. Thus, the athletes were able to fully recover and compete at maximum capacity.
The satisfaction of seeing the results at the Olympics
There is no greater feeling than watching the athletes you have coached perform at the Olympics. Every perfectly executed move, every record broken is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team. It is a huge reward to know that your efforts contributed to their success, giving them the opportunity to achieve their dreams and bring pride to our country.
Conclusion
My experience as a physiotherapist for the Olympic gymnastics and track and field teams was, without a doubt, one of the most valuable and memorable in my career. Working closely with professionals like Mihaela Dobronica and Dr. Alin Pandea and having the opportunity to work with elite athletes helped me develop professionally and personally. I am grateful for every moment spent with these remarkable athletes and I look forward to continuing to contribute to their future success towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
